Laparoscopic radical distal pancreatosplenectomy for pancreatic body cancer

12 Feb, 2021

Laparoscopic radical distal pacreaticosplenectomy done for a 66-year-old lady, diagnosed recently with a pancreatic cancer affecting the body. Specimen retrieved from a pfannenstiel incision, thereby avoiding any upper abdominal incision (besides the port sites) followed by an uneventful recovery and discharge on 3rd day after surgery. Final histopathologic stage was pT1cN0M0 (7 nodes, all negative; margins clear). Laparoscopic radical distal pancreaticsplenectomy, in experienced hands, is feasible, safe and oncologically sound with benefits of lesser post-operative pain, early recovery compared to open distal pancreaticosplenectomy.
